Terrazza Fiorella (NA)

by Lavinia Colonna Preti

In Massa Lubrense, part of the Art Hotel Villa Fiorella, a dream restaurant where chef Carmine Mazza’s cuisine meets the beauty of contemporary art and an unparalleled view that goes from Capri to Vesuvius.

Such beauty is that which, at the behest of its creator, Alberto Colonna, a descendant of a family of hoteliers, can be felt at Terrazza Fiorella which overlooks a wonderful panorama with the sun setting behind the island of Ischia.

The restaurant is part of the structure of Art Hotel Villa Fiorella, dedicated to art and love for the territory in which it is located, the municipality of Massa Lubrense in the heart of the Sorrento Peninsula, in every detail.

In the philosophy of our restaurant, eating well means assimilating the essence of a territory.

(chef Carmine Mazza)

As soon as you cross the threshold of the restaurant you are greeted by various works of art, some of which are permanent from the private collection of the Colonna family, others temporary thanks to various collaborations with international galleries, such as the current exhibition in which the Turin artist Paolo is the protagonist Grassino with his iconic dogs.

Terrazza Fiorella is led by Chef Carmine Mazza, from Torre del Greco, with a long experience under his belt at various restaurants in the area, famous throughout the world for a very high concentration of starred restaurants and fine dining.

His high cuisine is a true declaration of love for an area so rich both from a cultural point of view and in terms of excellent products that Carmine knows how to make the most of. From the Piennolo del Vesuvius tomato, with a unique taste thanks to the volcanic earth, to the lemons of Massa Lubrense.

Three tasting itineraries, a choice between Campania Felix, Orgoglio Territoriale and Filii Vesuvii, one more delicious than the other where traditional dishes – such as aubergine parmigiana or tagliolini with lemon – are combined with more creative recipes – such as neraNO 1952, the cappelletti stuffed with Provolone del Monaco cheese and courgettes, or the delicious Cacio e Uova, with 64° egg, caciocavallo cheese foam and liquorice.

There are many honorable mentions, such the “Antonino” oil, a tribute to the owner’s grandfather, made with olives grown on the hotel’s garden, or the fun small pastries that come at the end with coffee, an original edible version of the Sorrento peninsula made of chocolate of different tastes depending on each location and its gastronomic characteristics.

The wine cellar is exceptional and, in addition to art, is another great passion of Alberto Colonna. Over 700 labels, some of which with a depth that reaches up to 1986 which can also be tasted in tastings of vertical vintages and special cuvées on the advice of sommelier Luciano Esposito.

And before dinner, go for an aperitif with a view at the Cielo Sky Lounge cocktail bar, located upstairs in the restaurant, where you can relax and enjoy the sunset in the comfortable couches.

The view of Capri, art, beauty and good food, everything you could really want from a fabulous dinner you can find it here.

The Secret

Villa Fiorella, named after the old guesthouse on which it was built, was born from Alberto Colonna’s dream of giving life to a world that could represent a gateway to his land and make guests from all over the world fall in love with it. A vision that he had shared with his grandfather who had in turn encouraged him to purchase a small disused guesthouse, whose name he romantically retained.
