In Naples in Chiaia, a pizzeria, led by pizza chef Gianluca Marra, dedicated to the tradition of Neapolitan pizza, where everything is vintage, from the furniture inspired by that of grandmas to the staff uniform.
Opened in 2024, Antica Pizzeria Chiaia was born from the love for his city and pizza of Giovanni Avolio, and 3 other partners, who, after launching the food & beverage project of the Grand Hotel Parkers’ and his consulting firm, wanted to give life to a timeless place, which seems to have always existed. Antica Pizzeria Chiaia, in fact, has already become a cult gastronomic destination in Naples, dedicated to Neapolitan pizza and its “experiential” history.
“Pizzaioli con bottega”, as they define themselves, their delicious pizza is the result of the mastery of pizza chef Gianluca Marra who uses the best ingredients from Campania.

For the interior design, Giovanni was inspired by Antonio Mattozzi’s famous book on the history of pizza “Pizza. A Neapolitan story. Pizzerias and pizza makers between the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the 20th century”, focusing the furniture and menu on the two most important periods for pizza, when it was born, around 1890, and when it took on its current shape and ingredients, that is, in the 1970s.
The furniture was designed, in fact, like the home of a pizza chef in the 1970s.
The three rooms, the entrance room with the wood-fired oven, the dining room and the kitchen, are furnished like the houses of Neapolitan grandmas, with wallpaper on the walls, the inevitable sideboard with tureens and vintage plates, lace and frills, the trolley of bitters and many lucky charms, from croissants to saints.
The Pizza Menu includes all the classic pizzas, fried ones, stuffed ones and the ruotiello, among the oldest, a variation of the traditional Neapolitan pizza that is cooked in a low, round pan called “ruoto” or “rutiello”, and the signature ones such Capri, focaccia with extra virgin olive oil and Grana Padano DOP, buffalo mozzarella, semi-dry cherry tomatoes, basil and Capri lemon slices, Nerano, classic pizza with cream of zucchini, fried zucchini, smoked provola, fondue of provolone del monaco DOP, basil and extra virgin olive oil, and Costa Flegrea, classic pizza with cream of peppers, aubergines, zucchini, Piennolo cherry tomatoes, smoked provola, basil and extra virgin olive oil.
Antica Pizzeria Chiaia also offers the Bottega Menu with a wide selection of fried foods and first courses, with classic sauces such as ragù and genovese linked to the Campania tradition, and the option of a pizza tasting menu with wine pairing included.
Truly one of the most beautiful and good pizzerias in Naples.
The Secret
At Antica Pizzeria Chiaia even coffee time is a ritual, prepared strictly with the moka machine, because in Neapolitan homes it is lit even before a guest arrives for a sense of warmth and welcome.
