Ristorante Glicine (SA)
In Amalfi, inside the splendid Hotel Santa Caterina, the restaurant led by Campanian chef Giuseppe Stanzione, one Michelin star, offers an aesthetic and culinary experience at the highest levels, with one of the most beautiful sea views in the world.
So much beauty, everywhere. The restaurant of the Hotel Santa Caterina welcomes guests on a panoramic terrace overlooking the sea, among bougainvillea and a centuries-old wisteria, from which it takes its name, splendid majolica, and a hospitality that has become legend.
The Santa Caterina in Amalfi, an Art Nouveau villa from the early 1900s born as a private residence dedicated to true sartorial luxury, today part of The Leading Hotels of the World, owned and managed by the Gambardella family for over four generations, is, in fact, famous throughout the world for the exceptional quality of its hospitality and services.
It is a great honor to put experience, passion and technique at the service of the flavors of my land, in particular the intense and enveloping ones of the Amalfi area.
(Giuseppe Stanzione, chef)
An attention to detail that goes hand in hand with the exceptional position of the structure, overlooking the sea of Amalfi, among centuries-old gardens, vegetable gardens, lemon and orange groves.
The Glicine Restaurant, open in the evening, brings to the table the typical cuisine of the Amalfi Coast and the best Mediterranean flavors thanks to exceptional raw materials, from lemons to fish, from cherry tomatoes to ancient flours.
Chef Giuseppe Stanzione, with a past in great international cuisines and the first Michelin star obtained in 2013 at Le Trabe in Capaccio-Paestum, ennobles each ingredient with great skill, giving life to recipes that best describe the territory as Red Prawn Tails from Santa Maria di Castellabate flavored with Lemon with Wild Rocket and Burrata, Spaghettini with Sfusato Amalfi Lemon, Poached True Octopus, Vesuvius Tomatoes, Capers and Olives and Black Pig Cheek with Pumpkin Chutney, Porcini Mushrooms and Zabaglione with Parmesan aged 36 months.
The wine list, orchestrated by sommelier Luca Amato, favors labels from the Campania region and surprises us with a cultured selection of excellent wines from other Italian and international regions.
The beauty of the terrace can be enjoyed all year round, thanks to discreet heating lamps and soft scarves offered by the impeccable staff to keep warm.
The perfect experience? A glass of champagne at the adjacent Bar La Terrazza and then move to the corner table in the restaurant and let yourself go to the music of the piano bar and the beauty of one of the most beautiful sunsets in the world, the one on the Amalfi Coast.
The Secret
Until 1999, the famous architect Alfredo Gravagnuolo was responsible for the wonderful interiors of the hotel. He also suggested the original flooring of the Glicine Restaurant, a particular blue marble, with shades ranging from light blue to purple that reminded him of the waves of the sea, which comes from Macaubas in the state of Bahia in Brazil.
